Precautions
Deep oblique or upward insertion is contraindicated. Avoid lifting and thrusting movements to prevent injury to the infraorbital nerve.
Location (classical)
With the eyes looking straight ahead, 1 cun directly below the center of the pupil, in the depression at the infraorbital foramen.
How to find it (practical)
Seated or supine, with the patient looking straight ahead, locate the point below the pupil, in the depression of the infraorbital foramen.
Anatomy
Orbicularis oculi muscle. Located at the exit of the infraorbital nerve. Infraorbital artery and vein.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion 0.3–0.5 cun, or transverse (subcutaneous) insertion toward neighboring points (e.g., ST-4, SI-18).
Etymology
Si (四), four; Bai (白), white, brightness. The point lies below the eye and is indicated for ocular disorders. It improves vision in the four directions.
