Location (classical)
Posterior to the ear, in the upper third of the curve connecting TE-17 and TE-20, posterior to the root of the auricle.
How to find it (practical)
Seated or in lateral decubitus, locate the point on the posterior auricular hairline, at the midpoint of the line connecting Chi Mai (TE-18) and Jiao Sun (TE-20) along the helix.
Anatomy
Posterior auricular muscle. Innervated by the lesser occipital nerve. Posterior auricular artery.
Needling
Transverse (subcutaneous) insertion, 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Lu (顱), fontanelle; Xi (息), sign. Note: there is a translation error here in Chinese. The point lies on the skull and is used to treat infantile convulsion.
