Location (classical)
On the radial aspect of the index finger, in the depression anterior and inferior to the metacarpophalangeal joint, at the junction between the shaft and base of the proximal phalanx.
How to find it (practical)
With the wrist slightly flexed and the palm facing up, locate the point on the radial border anterior to the metacarpophalangeal joint of the index finger, at the junction of light and dark skin of the first phalanx of this finger.
Anatomy
First lumbrical muscle, tendon of the extensor digitorum. Innervated by the proper palmar digital nerve (median nerve) and the superficial branch of the radial nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular or oblique insertion, 0.2–0.3 cun.
Etymology
Er (二), two, second; Jian (間), free space. It is the second point of the Large Intestine Meridian.
