Location (classical)
On the medial side of the ankle, posterior and inferior to the medial malleolus, in the depression anterior to the medial insertion of the Achilles tendon.
How to find it (practical)
Seated or in dorsal decubitus, locate the point posteroinferior to the medial malleolus, at the anterior border of the calcaneal tendon, 0.5 cun below Tai Xi (KI-3).
Anatomy
Medial border of the Achilles tendon. Innervated by the medial calcaneal branches of the tibial nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular or oblique insertion, 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Da (大), great; Zhong (钟), heel. The calcaneus is a very important bone, as it supports the body when standing.
