Location (classical)
On the lateral aspect of the chest, in the fifth intercostal space, 6 cun lateral to the chest midline.
How to find it (practical)
Supine, locate the point in the fifth intercostal space, 6 cun lateral to the anterior midline.
Anatomy
Serratus anterior muscle and external intercostal muscles. Innervated by the 5th intercostal nerve.
Needling
0.5–0.8 cun obliquely or transversely (subcutaneously), parallel to the intercostal space.
Etymology
Shi (食), food; Dou (窦), cavity. The point promotes the absorption of nutrients from food.
