Location (classical)
On the medial aspect of the calf, 5 cun below the knee (or 3 cun below Yinlingquan SP-9), in the depression along the posterior border of the tibia.
How to find it (practical)
Seated or supine, locate the point on the posterior margin of the tibia, 3 cun directly below Yin Ling Quan (SP-9).
Anatomy
Soleus muscle. Innervated by the saphenous nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion 1 to 1.5 cun.
Etymology
Di (地), earth; Ji (机), pivot. The body is divided into three parts. From the feet to the umbilicus is the Earth part. The point Di Ji (SP-8) lies strategically at the center of the Earth part, important for the movement of the knee.
