In ventral or lateral recumbency. In the gluteal region, 3.0 cun medial to the posterior superior iliac spine, on the transverse plane that passes 3.0 cun inferior to that spine.

Skin, subcutaneous tissue, fascia, gluteus maximus muscle, gluteus medius muscle, gluteus minimus muscle, piriformis muscle. Superficial layer: inferior cluneal nerves and branches of the inferior gluteal nerve. Deep layer: superior and inferior gluteal arteries and veins, inferior gluteal nerve, posterior femoral cutaneous nerve, and sciatic nerve.
