Location (classical)
On the upper back, on the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the first thoracic vertebra (T1).
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the back flexed or in prone decubitus, first locate Da Zhui (GV-14) for reference. Locate (GV-13) in the depression below the spinous process of the first thoracic vertebra.
Anatomy
Supraspinous and interspinous ligaments.
Needling
Oblique insertion directed superiorly, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Tao (陶), kiln in which ceramic vessels are made; Dao (道), path or passage. The passage of Yang Qi is compared to the chimney of a kiln.
