Location (classical)
On the top of the head, on the posterior midline, 1.5 cun directly posterior to GV-20 (and 1.5 cun superior to GV-18).
How to find it (practical)
Seated, with the back supported, locate the point 1.5 cun posterior to the Bai Hui (GV-20) point, on the posterior midline.
Anatomy
Epicranial aponeurosis. Innervated by the greater occipital nerve.
Needling
Transverse (subcutaneous) insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Hou (後), posterior; Ding (頂), vertex. The point is located posterior to the vertex.
