Precautions
Very sensitive point. Oral hygiene must be ensured before puncture.
Location (classical)
Inside the mouth, at the junction of the frenulum of the upper lip with the upper gum.
How to find it (practical)
Seated, with the neck in extension, lift the upper lip and locate the point where the upper frenulum meets the gum.
Anatomy
Frenulum of the upper lip. Innervated by the superior alveolar branches of the maxillary nerve (trigeminal).
Needling
Oblique insertion directed superiorly, 0.1–0.2 cun, or pricked to bleed.
Etymology
Yin (齦), gum; Jiao (交), meeting. The point is located on the incisive suture of the upper gum, where the Du Mai and the Ren Mai meet.
