Location (classical)
1 cun proximal (obliquely superior) to the lateral end of the cubital crease (LI-11), on the anterior border of the humerus.
How to find it (practical)
With the elbow flexed, locate the point 1 cun directly above Qu Chi (LI-11), on the lateral border of the triceps brachii tendon.
Anatomy
Lateral supracondylar ridge of the humerus, origin of the brachioradialis and triceps brachii muscles. Innervated by the posterior cutaneous nerve of the forearm and the radial nerve.
Needling
Vertical insertion 0.5–1 cun; the needle is introduced between the border of the humerus and the flexor muscles in a medial direction.
Etymology
Zhou (肘), elbow; Liao (髎), bone hole. The point lies on the elbow, near the bone hole.
