Precautions
Avoid the superficial temporal artery and vein. Ensure that the patient does not close the mouth firmly while the needle is inserted.
Location (classical)
On the face, anterior to the tragus and posterior to the condyloid process of the mandible. Locate with the mouth open.
Anatomy
Articular capsule of the temporomandibular joint. Innervated by the auriculotemporal nerve and branches of the facial nerve. Superficial temporal artery and vein.
Needling
With the patient's mouth slightly open, perpendicular insertion 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Ting (聽), hearing; Gong (宮), important place. Ting Gong refers to the ear. The point lies in front of the ear, indicated for otologic diseases.
