Precautions
Take care with the superficial temporal vessels. Instruct the patient not to forcefully close the jaw while the needle is inserted.
Location (classical)
On the face, anterior to the intertragic notch, on the posterior border of the condyloid process of the mandible. Locate with the mouth open.
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the head at rest or in lateral decubitus. With the mouth open, locate the point in the depression posterior to the condyloid process of the mandible.
Anatomy
Parotid gland, temporomandibular joint capsule. Innervated by the great auricular nerve and the facial nerve. The superficial temporal artery and vein lie adjacent.
Needling
With the patient’s mouth open, perpendicular insertion 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Ting (听), hearing; Hui (会), convergence/capacity. The point is located anterior to the ear. Its function is to treat hearing impairment.
