Location (classical)
On the ulnar border of the little finger, in a depression just distal to the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint. Locate with the fist slightly closed, at the junction of the reddened and white skin.
How to find it (practical)
Bending the fingers slightly, locate the point at the dorsiventral border of the metacarpophalangeal transverse crease.
Anatomy
Tendon of the abductor digiti minimi muscle. Innervated by the dorsal digital nerve of the ulnar nerve.
Needling
Distal oblique insertion 0.2 to 0.3 cun, or perpendicular-oblique insertion toward the palm, 0.5 cun.
Etymology
Qian (前), front; Gu (谷), valley. The depression in front of the fifth metacarpophalangeal joint is like a valley.
