On the dorsum of the foot, between the 2nd and 3rd metatarsal bones, in a depression proximal to the metatarsophalangeal joints.
How to find it (practical)
Supine or seated, locate the point in the depression anterior to the junction of the 2nd and 3rd metatarsal bones.
Anatomy
Second dorsal interosseous muscle. Innervated by the deep fibular nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular or oblique insertion 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Xian (陷), depression; Gu (谷), valley. Gu denotes a depression on the body surface. The point lies in the depression between the 2nd and 3rd metatarsal bones.
