Avoid the anterior tibial artery and vein.
Location (classical)
On the dorsum of the ankle, at the level of the prominence of the lateral malleolus, in the depression between the tendons of the extensor hallucis longus and the extensor digitorum longus.
How to find it (practical)
Supine or seated, locate the point on the transverse crease of the ankle joint, between the tendons of the extensor hallucis longus and the extensor digitorum longus muscles, at the level of the lateral malleolus.
Anatomy
Ankle joint capsule, cruciate crural ligament. Innervated by the superficial and deep fibular nerves. Branches of the anterior tibial artery.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Jie (解), space in the joint; Xi (溪), stream, depression. Xi refers to a small depression between the tendons, like a brook. The point lies in the anterior depression of the ankle joint.
