Precautions
Take care to avoid the facial artery and vein.
Location (classical)
On the lateral mandible, anterior to the masseter muscle. Located in a shallow depression slightly above the angle of the mandible.
How to find it (practical)
Seated or supine, with the mouth closed and the cheeks puffed out, locate the point at the border of the mandibular fossa, where the pulse is palpable.
Anatomy
Anterior border of the masseter muscle. Facial nerve (mandibular branch). The facial artery is directly palpable here.
Needling
Oblique or transverse (subcutaneous) insertion 0.3–0.5 cun, generally directed toward ST-6.
Etymology
Da (大), great; Ying (迎), reception. The point lies beside the mandibular artery.
