Precautions
Deep needling can perforate a full bladder. The patient should void before treatment.
Location (classical)
On the lower abdomen, 2 cun lateral to the anterior midline, 3 cun below the umbilicus (level of CV-4).
How to find it (practical)
Supine, locate the point 3 cun below the umbilicus and 2 cun lateral to the anterior midline.
Anatomy
Rectus abdominis muscle. Innervated by the 12th intercostal nerve (subcostal nerve).
Needling
Perpendicular insertion 1.0–1.5 cun.
Etymology
Shui (水), water; Dao (道), way. The deep region of this point corresponds to the Xiao Chang (Small Intestine) and lies near the Pang Guang (Bladder). It is located in the Lower Jiao, where the waterways pass.
