Location (classical)
On the anterior aspect of the thigh, on the line connecting the ASIS to the lateral border of the patella, 6 cun above the upper border of the patella.
How to find it (practical)
With the patient seated and the knee flexed, the examiner faces the patient. Locate the midpoint of the upper border of the patella. There the examiner places the midpoint of the first transverse crease of the palm, fingers directed cranially. Locate the point Fu Tu (ST-32) at the level of the tip of the middle finger.
Anatomy
Rectus femoris and vastus lateralis muscles. Innervated by the anterior cutaneous branches of the femoral nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion 1.0–2.0 cun.
Etymology
Fu (付), crouching; Tu (兔), rabbit. The prominence of the muscle where the point is located resembles a crouching rabbit.
