Precautions
Vascular area; prone to bruising. According to several classical texts, this point is contraindicated to moxibustion.
Location (classical)
On the face, in the depression at the lateral end of the eyebrow.
How to find it (practical)
Seated or in lateral decubitus, locate the point at the lateral border of the zygomatic process on the frontal bone, in the depression at the end of the eyebrow.
Anatomy
Orbicularis oculi muscle. Innervated by the zygomaticotemporal nerve and the facial nerve.
Needling
Transverse (subcutaneous) insertion directed posteriorly or medially, 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Sizhu (絲竹), thin bamboo (indicates eyebrow); Kong (空), cleft. The point lies at the lateral end of the eyebrow, in a depression.
