Precautions
No standard contraindications, but it is a vascular area (prone to hematoma). Caution: branches of the frontal nerve, the facial nerve, and blood vessels. Moxibustion is contraindicated according to most texts.
Location (classical)
On the face, in the depression at the medial end of the eyebrow, directly above the inner canthus of the eye.
How to find it (practical)
With the head at rest or in dorsal decubitus, locate the point approximately 0.1 cun lateral to the medial end of the eyebrow.
Anatomy
Corrugator supercilii and frontalis muscles. Innervated by the frontal nerve (ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal) and the supratrochlear nerve.
Needling
0.3–0.5 cun obliquely from lateral to medial, or transversely (subcutaneous); transverse-oblique insertion inferiorly toward BL-1; or prick to bleed in Heat disorders.
Etymology
Zan (攒), to gather; Zhu (竹), bamboo. The point lies at the medial end of the eyebrow, a location that resembles a lush bamboo grove.
