Location (classical)
In the lumbar region, 3 cun lateral to the inferior border of the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra (L1), at the level of BL-22.
How to find it (practical)
In ventral decubitus, locate the point below the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra, 3 cun lateral to Xuan Shu (GV-5).
Anatomy
Thoracolumbar fascia, latissimus dorsi, and quadratus lumborum muscles.
Needling
Perpendicular or oblique insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Huang (肓), membrane; Men (门), gate. The point lies at the level of San Jiao Shu (BL-22) as a gate for the Qi of the San Jiao.
