Location (classical)
On the lateral aspect of the foot, in the depression anterior and inferior to the head of the fifth metatarsal (distal to the metatarsophalangeal joint).
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the foot supported, locate the point on the lateral aspect of the foot, in the depression distal to the fifth metatarsophalangeal joint, at the transition between light and dark skin.
Anatomy
Tendon of the abductor digiti minimi muscle. Innervated by the lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.2–0.3 cun.
Etymology
Zu (足), foot; Tong (通), passage; Gu (谷), valley. The point lies in the depression of the foot, comparable to a valley, through which the Qi of the meridian flows.
