Location (classical)
On the lateral aspect of the foot, in the depression posterior and inferior to the head of the fifth metatarsal (proximal to the metatarsophalangeal joint).
How to find it (practical)
Seated with the foot supported or in dorsal decubitus, locate the point on the lateral aspect of the foot, proximal to the fifth metatarsophalangeal joint, at the transition between light and dark skin.
Anatomy
Abductor digiti minimi muscle. Innervated by the lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Shu (束), bind; Gu (骨), bone. Shu Gu is the ancient name for the head of the fifth metatarsal.
