Location (classical)
In the occipital region, directly superior to GB-20, at the level of GV-17 (upper border of the external occipital protuberance).
How to find it (practical)
Seated or in ventral decubitus, locate the point 2.25 cun lateral to Nao Hu (GV-17) or 1.5 cun above the Feng Chi point (GB-20).
Anatomy
Occipitalis muscle. Innervated by the greater occipital nerve. Occipital artery.
Needling
Transverse (subcutaneous) insertion, 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Nao (脑), brain; Kong (空), cavity, depression. The point is located in the depression lateral to the occipital bone.
