Deep insertion may perforate the peritoneal cavity.
Location (classical)
On the lateral aspect of the abdomen, anterior and inferior to the ASIS, 0.5 cun anterior and inferior to GB-27.
How to find it (practical)
In lateral decubitus, locate the point 0.5 cun anteroinferior to Wu Shu (GB-27), close to the inguinal region.
Anatomy
External and internal oblique muscles. Innervated by the ilioinguinal nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular or oblique insertion, 0.5–1.0 cun.
Etymology
Wei (维), maintenance; Dao (道), passage.
