Location (classical)
On the forehead, 0.5 cun within the anterior hairline, 3 cun lateral to the anterior midline (or two-thirds of the distance between the midline and ST-8).
How to find it (practical)
Seated, with the head at rest, locate the point 3 cun lateral to the midline, 0.5 cun posterior to the anterior hairline.
Anatomy
Frontalis muscle. Innervated by the frontal nerve (trigeminal).
Needling
Transverse (subcutaneous) insertion, 0.3–0.5 cun.
Etymology
Ben (本), talent, capacity; Shen (神), mind. The point is located lateral to Shen Ting (GV-24), in the cephalic region, considered the residence and governor of the mind. Indicated in the treatment of psychic disorders.
