Location (classical)
On the lateral aspect of the knee, in the depression 3 cun superior to GB-34, directly above the lateral epicondyle of the femur.
How to find it (practical)
With the knee flexed, locate the point at the midpoint between the depression on the anterior aspect of the lateral epicondyle of the femur and the biceps femoris tendon, 3 cun above Yang Ling Quan (GB-34).
Anatomy
Posterior border of the iliotibial tract, anterior to the biceps femoris tendon. Innervated by the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.
Needling
Perpendicular insertion, 1.0–1.5 cun.
Etymology
Xi (膝), knee; Yang (阳), Yang of Yin-Yang; Guan (关), joint. The point is located on the lateral aspect of the knee joint.
